Details about how Nomadous was created and its most important moments
Nomadous Design was created in 2015 in Porto, Portugal. The founders are two portuguese women who are passionate about design and traveling and decided to bring a bit of their passions and trips together to create a unique furniture brand concept.
The brand concept was created in the summer of 2015, resulting in Nomadous: The World Through Design, a brand which takes inspiration in the world, its cultures, nature and landmarks, to create unique and exclusive furniture design pieces.
The design process began right after the concept was born. The first piece designed was inspired by “Calçada Portuguesa” (traditional portuguese sidewalk pavement), an inspiration the founders could find all over their home country and the perfect choice to start their collection, by honoring the admiration they both have by the beauty and history of Portugal. This is how Manuel Sideboard was born, in September 2015.
Still in September, right after visiting, as usual, Paris Design Week, Liliana and Marlene decided to create a piece inspired by Louvre Museum, a landmark for anyone who loves arts and culture. The faceted Chest of Drawers François was the piece created as a tribute to this iconic museum.
During the prototyping of François, the third piece was designed. This piece was Chloé Dining Table, inspired by CERN, a scientific landmark located in Switzerland, a country they visited in 2013 and fell in love with. Chloé is an apparently serious dining table, but when you digg deeper and see it’s interior, you find it to be colorful and playful, just like the Swiss people Liliana and Marlene met and became friends with back in 2013.
After this, Sophia Console was designed, inspired by one of the many amazing sculptures we can find in Downtown Calgary (Alberta, Canada). This particular sculpture, work of sculptor John McEwen and named Weaving Fence & Horn presents an irregular and distinct form, rigid and at the same time playful, exactly like the vibe transmited by Sophia.
To design the last piece of the initial collection, the brand looked for an inspiration that would completely differ from the previous creations, finding it in the Zulu, a tribe from South Africa which is the biggest ethnic group of the region. Inspired by the natural fences they create, Nomadous created Lwazi Folding Screen, recurring to different wood materials, but maintaining the raw design concept you can find in the original constructions of the Zulu people.
Once all designing and prototyping was done, the first collection was released in early 2016, as a way to interpret the world through design pieces of exquisite quality and which evoke strong emotions in design lovers worldwide. Nomadous uses ancient Portuguese handcrafting techniques to manually manufacture unique art pieces, perfect to complement the design of your home.
